Expert Naturalist Guides & Conservation Fieldcraft

Meet lead naturalist guide Adun Bahrum (20+ years field experience) and learn about our ethical approach to birdwatching in West Java.

Our Story

Javana Birding Tour was founded by local naturalists and ornithologists from West Java who recognized that international birders were missing the deepest, most authentic corners of our island's biodiversity. While generalist eco-tour operators often rush through multiple destinations, we focus solely on Jawa Barat: its volcanic montane peaks, submontane cloud forests, and coastal wetland remnants.

Our Field Ethics and Conservation Pledge

Avian welfare always takes precedence over a checklist tick. We observe strict field craft protocols:

  • Zero playback abuse: We do not rely on endless electronic recordings that distress territorial pairs or jeopardize active nesting cycles.
  • Small groups: Strict maximum group sizes of 4 to 6 birders ensure reduced trail impact, quieter approaches, and superior views for every guest.
  • Direct community engagement: We hire local village porters, stay at family-run lodges, and work alongside national park rangers on habitat monitoring initiatives.
