Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Jakarta and Afternoon Forest Trail to Dusk

Morning pickup from Jakarta or Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) in our private air-conditioned vehicle. We drive west across the Banten lowlands towards Carita along the Sunda Strait coast (approximately 4 to 4.5 hours driving time).

After checking in at our coastal base hotel, we head directly into the shaded Carita forest reserve. We bird through the lower rainforest until 19:00 WIB, focusing on the brilliant Javan Banded Pitta (Hydrornis guajanus) along damp leaf litter, Black-banded Barbet (Psilopogon javensis) in the canopy, and an evening owling watch for the cryptic Javan Frogmouth (Batrachostomus javensis) and Javan Owlet (Glaucidium castanopterum).

Day 2: Full Day Primary Lowland Forest Birding

A comprehensive full day exploring the diverse lowland rainforest habitats of the Carita reserve. We start at first light around 05:30 along the forest river trails, where rushing streams and lush bamboo shelter Javan Tit-Babbler (Mixornis flavicollis) and Javan Black-capped Babbler (Pellorneum capistratum) foraging quietly on the damp forest floor.

During midday and afternoon, we scan the fruiting fig canopy for Yellow-eared Barbet (Psilopogon australis) and Black-banded Barbet, while keeping watch for raptors and canopy frugivores. Late afternoon forest edge birding concludes with a checklist review over fresh coastal seafood dinner.

Day 3: Dawn Session to 11:00 AM and Return Transfer

Early morning birding session from 05:30 until 11:00 AM along the forest edge and secondary growth to pick up missing targets, including Yellow-throated Hanging Parrot and Bar-winged Prinia.

At 11:00 AM, we return to the hotel to shower, check out, and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, our private vehicle transfers you comfortably back to Jakarta or CGK Airport for your onward connections.
