Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Jakarta/Bandung and Afternoon Crater Birding

Morning pickup directly from your hotel in Jakarta or Bandung (or Soekarno-Hatta International Airport / Halim Whoosh Station) in our comfortable private air-conditioned vehicle. We drive south towards the cool Ciwidey highlands of Bandung Regency (approximately 3.5 to 4 hours from Jakarta via the Soreang tollway).

Upon reaching the misty volcanic slopes of Mount Patuha at 2,400 metres elevation, we check in at our highland eco-lodge and begin immediate birding along the primary forest trails and crater ridge. As the afternoon cools, we watch for Volcano Swiftlet (Aerodramus vulcanorum) wheeling across the sulfur caldera, Sunda Warbler (Phylloscopus grammiceps), and Blue Nuthatch (Sitta azurea). As dusk falls (until 19:00 WIB), we conduct evening owling vigils for Javan Scops Owl (Otus angelinae) and Salvadori’s Nightjar (Caprimulgus pulchellus).

Day 2: Full Day Patuha Cloud Forest and Crater Basin Exploration

A full day dedicated to birding the rich montane ecosystems around Kawah Putih and the Patuha caldera. We commence at 05:30 with dawn canopy watches as mixed feeding waves emerge from the moss-draped ridge forest.

Morning targets include Javan Trogon (Apalharpactes reinwardtii) perching quietly in the mid-canopy, the elusive Javan Cochoa (Cochoa azurea), Horsfield’s Thrush (Zoothera horsfieldi) on damp moss tracks, and Tawny-breasted Parrotfinch along bamboo thickets. In the afternoon, we work the edges of surrounding heritage tea estates and protected ravines before an evening checklist review and dinner.

Day 3: Dawn Session to 11:00 AM and Return Transfer

Early morning birding from 05:30 until 11:00 AM, targeting any remaining highland specialties and photographic opportunities along the scenic crater perimeter.

After completing our field checklist and enjoying a fresh lunch, we pack up and begin the return journey. Our private vehicle transfers you comfortably back to Jakarta (hotel or CGK Airport) or Bandung, arriving in time for your evening connections.
